FEBRUARY 2010

Chairman's Commentsalt

State of the Republican Party 2010

What an amazing time it is to be a Republican! Who would have ever thought that a Republican could win a senate seat in the bluest of blue states of Massachusetts! So if a blue state can elect a Republican to a US Senate seat, I have no doubt that a blue county can elect many Republicans.

The Lake County Republican Party is only as strong as its members, and it will take the work of all of us to increase that strength. We need to work together to give the voters of Lake County an alternative. Now having said that, comes my encouragement to run for public office. This could be a great year for Republicans to win offices based on the general mistrust and disgust of many people out there. Some of you have already stepped up. To those of you who have, I thank you.

Are you a person who cares about the direction your town, city, county, or state is going? Are you involved with the Republican Party, other service organizations or have a network of friends? Are you ready to work hard walking door to door, sacrificing family time, raising money, and putting together a team to work with you? Are you a leader? If you answered YES to all of those than you will make an excellent candidate.

I would like to see all these open positions filled in the primary. A candidate will have a better chance of winning in the general election if he/she runs in the primary also.

If you don't feel the calling to make the commitment to run for public office, then you can always help your local candidate make phone calls, walk door to door, stuff envelopes, etc... There are many ways you can assist the Republican Party to help strengthen us.

Being able to fund these campaigns is another challenge that we have. Our largest fundraiser of the year, Lincoln Day, is coming up this month on the 27th. You can assist by purchasing tickets, Gold Tables, or Sponsorships.

We don't have a paid staff. Our Executive Committee, all City and Town Chairs, our Webmaster (that would be me again until someone else volunteers!), and our Newsletter Editor all work for free in our "spare" time. So, all the money that the Central Committee makes during our fundraisers goes to pay the necessary bills we have to function as a party and to fund candidates.

So remember that the State of the Republican Party depends on all of us. Are you ready step up and help strengthen us?

Kim

altWhy Martin Luther King Was Republican
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman's issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy is lauded as a proponent of civil rights. However, Kennedy voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while he was a senator, as did Democrat Sen. Al Gore Sr. And after he became President, Kennedy was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King that was organized by A. Phillip Randolph, who was a black Republican. President Kennedy, through his brother Atty. Gen. Robert Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist in order to undermine Dr. King.

PRESS RELEASE
LCRCC on State of the Union Speech

President Obama's first year in office has been all about saying one thing and doing the other. Hoosiers are tired of the rhetoric and ready for solutions. We are concerned about spending, the increasing role of government in our lives and the lack of focus on job creation. Our sincere hope is that tonight the words were not meant to be a distraction but instead a call for action on all three issues.

Obama's embrace of a spending freeze is either a realization of limits of government intervention in the marketplace or an Evan Bayh like attempt to soften the liberal edges of his agenda in the face of declining poll numbers.

Either way, President Obama's call for a three year freeze on non-defense discretionary spending is a good idea today just as it was one year ago when Senator John McCain first proposed it.

A spending freeze, pro-growth tax policies and strong support for school choice will lead to economic growth now and in the future.

Life is a series of chances
It is a shame, there are so many talented individuals worthy, qualified, and capable to win elections, don't and won't because they have difficulty seeing the big picture. Ronald Reagan, as president of the Screen Actors Guild, felt strongly enough about the subject of communism in Hollywood that he did something about it. His passion for what was right, drove him toward the facts which ultimately swayed him from a liberal to a conservative mindset. He didn't win every role he auditioned for, nor did Abraham Lincoln or Perry Ferrini win every election in which they ran. But they all shared something in common.. They felt passion in their beliefs.

These men ran in the elections they ran in, not because of their chances of winning or losing, they ran because they were driven by their passion for what was right. Anyone who has seriously thought of running for office, embrace that passion and run, run, run. Run hard. Run firm. Run strong. But most importantly, run because you believe.

Fraternally Yours,
Len A Reynolds

alt Ind. House approves property tax caps
full story

Republicans and Democrats joined together in a 75-to-23 tally in favor of the tax caps.

It was Republicans who pushed hardest for the change in the state constitution.

In a floor speech Minority Leader Brian Bosma said, "I want Hoosiers to have the opportunity to vote to cap their own property taxes."

The proposal to limit property taxes to 1% of a home's value, 2% of a farm, and 3% of a business also found opposition from both parties.

Arrogance of the Democratic Party in lake County Abounds PDF Print E-mail

altWhile Democratic Mayor Uran is vacationing in beautiful Hawaii, his campaign is getting into trouble with using NFL logos and gambling without a license. But is that the end of the story today? Perhaps the real story is how connected is Bo Jackson to getting those "pro athletes" to come to his fundraiser to raise thousands of dollars. Was there perhaps a deal for Bo to get his friends to attend the Mayor's fundraiser in return for Mayor Uran putting the heat on city officials and others to get his Sportplex approved? We may never know unless someone comes forward.

Just another example of arrogance in the democratic party right here in Lake County!

Democrat Deals Abound! PDF Print E-mail

We all found out today what at least one of the deals was in return for electing tax cheat (well we all know the democrats are famous for that so she fits in well with the likes of Timothy Geitner!) Michelle Fajman as County Recorder. Mike Troxell former democratic councilman in Schererville had been a candidate for Recorder. After the first round, Troxell had a discussion with Fajman and dropped out. Today Fajman announces Troxell is her deputy recorder. You got to love the way they all scratch each others' backs.

After the first round the Gary candidate also had a conversation with Fajman and dropped out. I wonder if we will see a Gary democrat replace Michelle in the Board of Elections! Stay tuned for the next edition of democrat Pay to Play!
